Meet Joseph B. Lora, CFA, The Founder of Fig Tree Capital
Hello, my name is Joseph and I am probably one of the few - perhaps the only - Bolivian-American financial advisors you will ever meet. But that's a good thing: to make it as a Bolivian immigrant required passion and dedication and that's reflected in my work. This is why I am also a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, 2015, and an Honors graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I also completed the Personal Financial Planning program at UCLA.
With 'head knowledge,' I combined hands-on everyday experience working in financial services since 2003, including over 10 years for Merrill Lynch/Banc of America Investment Services, Inc. in Pasadena, California.
I am grateful for my years at BofA/Merrill because my clients came from a wide range of backgrounds: from beginning investors trying to open a Roth IRA to high net worth clients, including business owners, Hollywood actors, and world-famous athletes playing in the NBA. It was an honor to prepare financial plans for clients and to grow their portfolios in order to meet their goals. Eventually, the time came for me to take this integrated philosophy – planning and investing – in order to launch Fig Tree Capital.
I did this because there was something in my profession that I specifically wanted to address.
The Story of Fig Tree Capital
I came to realize that many Americans are not only unprepared for retirement, they are also unaware of where their investments, mutual funds and 401(k) accounts were invested. Investors want their hard-earned money to support the values they care about.
This is what I call "Values-Based Investing" and it is why I launched Fig Tree Capital.
A little bit more about me: I have conducted financial seminars for churches, teachers, sales professionals as well as business school programs in America and China. I enjoy reading books about investing, health, history, biology - and I geek out on financial statements too. I love playing sports, especially biking, tennis and beach volleyball and I have worked with my clients and my church to serve and donate to numerous charitable organizations across Los Angeles and the world.
But the most important to know about me is: I believe the natural world - and all life - is a wondrous Creation and I am passionate about investing sustainably. The technology is out there and the world is innovating fast.
